Doon is where old Kitchener and new Kitchener meet. The original village around Doon Village Road and the heritage area near the Grand has older houses on mixed plumbing, some of it cast iron and galvanized, and lots close enough to the river that backwater valves and sump pumps are normal equipment. Pioneer Park and the streets around Conestoga College were built through the 1970s and 80s on copper and ABS, and the calls there are the ones that go with that era: pinhole copper, kitchen drains lined with grease, original stops that will not close, tank heaters replaced twice with the same undersized unit, and weeping tile tied to the sanitary sewer that should be disconnected into a sump pit. The problems there are crimps that were never seated, pumps that have never been tested, valves that have never been cleaned, and basement bathroom rough-ins the builder stubbed out and nobody finished. Grading complaints in the newer phases often turn out to be a waterproofing issue rather than a plumbing one, and the plumber will say which is which. Everything is quoted in writing after the plumber has seen it.
